Why Should I Donate to Show Me You Care About Kids?

Client testimony:

"Project CARE is an amazing program. They're really helped me to get on my feet. The childcare and gas vouchers allowed me the time and the means to be able to find a job. I don't know what I would have done without the help."

-21 year old Project CARE client and mother of three

All contributions to The Alliance of Southwest Missouri's "Show Me You Care About Kids" campaign will be used to further child abuse and neglect prevention efforts in southwest Missouri.  This is accomplished in a collaborative effort with our community partners by promoting public awareness and providing at-risk families with coordinated services using available community resources.

Abuse happens when parents are under greater than normal stress.  To reduce life's stressors, The Alliance helps at-risk parents access community resources to provide wrap-around services in addition to providing early childhood development information, parenting classes, and support.  Additionally, we provide families with essential items, such as diapers and safe car seats, in order to further reduce the stress and anxiety resulting from challenging economic circumstances.  The goal of prevention is always to help our parents learn how to provide safe and nurturing homes for their children and move to self-sufficiency.

Our target families are:

-Teen parents
-Parents without a high school diploma or GED
-Parents with children born prematurely or who have physical or developmental disabilities
-Parents with psychological disorders or substance abuse problems who also have infants or young children
-Parents who have been identified by other community agencies as “at-risk”

We assist families to:

-Identify and build on their strengths
-Access community resources
-Identify and better manage or reduce stressors
-Set realistic goals to improve their lives and move towards self-sufficiency

We provide our families with:

-Diapers and hygiene items (laundry detergent, soap, toilet tissue), safe cribs, safe car seats
-Parenting classes
-Parent support activities
-Child abuse prevention training
-Referrals to other community resources
