I am laughing at my over confidence because I learned……..

Lacey Matney is a new employee of The Alliance of Southwest Missouri.  She is the McDonald County Project CARE Coordinator and her office is housed in Noel.  Lacey recently attended The Alliance’s Child Parent Relationship Training, taught by counselor Joyce Wilkinson.  The 10 week CPRT class was hosted by the McDonald County Coalition under the direction of Chelsey Hall.  After the parenting class graduation is held, Chelsey (or other Alliance coordinators) share letters written in appreciation of the parenting class.

With permission to post; Lacey shares what she learned and her appreciation for the class:

November 10, 2014

I am going to be completely honest.  When I started this class, I really didn’t know how much I was actually going to learn because I considered myself a very educated, involved, and loving parent.  I have an early childhood background, read many parenting books, completed hours of early childhood training, and have a good relationship with my fairly well-behaved two-year old.  Ten weeks later, I am laughing at my over confidence because I learned some of the most valuable parenting skills and relationship building techniques from this training, Joyce, and the other parents in the class.

My two-year old and I have always had a strong relationship but since taking this class, it has gotten even stronger.  I have learned to see things through his eyes, be in his world, and give him the attention that he deserves no matter how big or small.  Through the play sessions, I was able to see a side of my child that I hadn’t seen before.  I was able to see how much of a complex and truly smart toddler he is.  I learned that he is definitely an out of the box thinker who picks up on more than I realized.

Joyce did a great job of presenting the material in a clear and concise manner and made it into a fun learning environment.  I was able to take what I learned and share it with my husband who was unable to attend; which I consider to be the most valuable part of the class. From week one, I shared the materials and skills that I was learning with my husband and as a result, my husband and sons relationship has grown exponentially.  It is awesome to sit back and see it working right before my eyes.

I would like to give a huge thank you to The Alliance of Southwest Missouri and Joyce for making this training possible.  I will definitely recommend this training to other parents and look forward to attending more of these trainings myself in the future.
